History of the Hall of Fame

The Wickliffe Community Hall of Fame was founded in 1993 by Mayor Thomas Ruffner. His was to honor deserving Wickliffe residents, business owners, and organizations for outstanding accomplishments not only withing the city of Wickliffe, but throughout the state of Ohio and the country. The intial Class of Inductees boasted 19 Inductees, including some of the founding fathers of Wickliffe. Since that first Induction Ceremony the Hall of Fame hs gone on to enshrine over 280 deserving individuals and 21 organizations, making the total number of Inductees over 300. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic in 2020, 2021, and 2022, the Hall of Fame ceased operations for safety reasons.

From 1993 until 2014, the Induction Ceremony was held on a Saturday night, usually the last week of October of the first week of November. In September of 2014 the event was moved to the last Sunday afternoon in September and the dinner was replaced with a luncheon. This move has been a great success for the Hall. The Hall of Fame's Board of Directors and Trustees are pleased to continue Mayor Ruffner's mission and vision.
